Baylor Homecoming- The Agenda

Homecoming is my favorite tradition at Baylor University because all of the activities involve a good majority of the Baylor and Waco communities. Greek life and other student organizations participate in float for the parade and Pigskin Revue. Spirit Squads (All-Girl Cheer, Co-Ed Yell Leaders and Songleaders) play a huge role in pumping up Baylor fans throughout the weekend and during the big game. And of course, the alumni are main reason for homecoming being a success. Although our relations with alumni aren’t as strong as they should be, it is still great to have alumni come back annually and support the school in this wonderful weekend.

Homecoming week, which consists of the weekdays that precede the actual weekend are full of excitement because I know that the weekend coming up is going to be another great practice of tradition. This is one reason why I would never miss fall at Baylor. Then Pigskin Revue is a must-see for anyone taking part in the exciting weekend because it highlights all of the acts of the preceding All-University SING. Pigskin Revue is then followed by the Bonfire, which is my favorite part of the weekend because that’s where Spirit Squads have the chance to show their stuff. We didn’t get to do a routine this year but next homecoming we may have something in store. ;)

And the Parade starts off the next day which consists of floats built by student organizations from all over campus. And then everyone makes their move to Floyd Casey Stadium to tailgate and prepare for the football game that everyone has been waiting for! Usually people leave afterwards to go back home or they’ll stay in town for some “festivities” that would occur on any normal Saturday night. I am so excited for next year’s freshman class to experience homecoming for the first time! Sic ‘Em Bears!

Here's Co-Ed with Ken Starr after we became bowl eligible!

Baylor Homecoming- The Game

The football game during homecoming is what the festivities are all about! The Saturday afternoon of homecoming is usually when the football game occurs. While our football team hasn’t been so great in the past, we actually won against Kansas State this past year 47 to 42! That game from the sidelines was so intense and had the crowd filled with emotion. Normally our alumni do not tend to be so avid about winning our game, but rather just attending just for the experience. But this year was a little different.

As the scoring was back and forth, fans were standing out of their seats on both sides of the stadium. Students and Alumni/Parents alike took part in the stadium yell and going back and forth between “BAY-LOR” and “BEARS”. The football team was highly motivated and I feel that we all did our part to help the team win.

I would be the first one to say that I would jump on the bandwagon when it came to my support freshman year. But this year as a Yell Leader, I have seen the true spirit behind Baylor athletics and that it’s all about supporting your school’s team no matter what. I have faith that our team is going to be even better come next season, and I look forward to cheering on our Baylor Bears through it all!
